The NVLI (National Virtual Library of India), a project funded by the Ministry of Culture and executed by a team at IIT-Bombay, is a step towards a digital future. As part of the project, IIT-Bombay has developed the “Indian Culture Portal” which is a holistic source for various resources related to Indian history, heritage, and culture from across the country.
Unlike other sites, the Indian Culture Portal is not just a repository of data but is interactive in terms of presenting curated information in the form of archival stories, video films, exclusive images, art details, and much more.
The focus on the culture of India, from philosophy to architecture and cuisine, makes this portal unique. There are various categories in which material is presented, including rare books, paintings, photo essays, original stories and snippets, archival documents, manuscripts, and gazetteers. There are special sections on India’s Cuisine, Textiles, Forts, and Historic Cities.
